Your cooperative prides itself on providing member-owners the cutting-edge service they expect and deserve. Continuing to respond to the member-owners' call to serve, the co-op is building a $4 million fiber optic network. This initiative is known as Roanoke Connect.
Our main motivation for bringing this broadband technology to the area is to ultimately take care of our internal, operational needs. As a result, this project will benefit outage frequency as well as response time to outages while better equipping Roanoke to help member-owners like you manage energy and reduce system losses. We want to ensure that all substations can communicate with one another, allowing us to better predict and manage outages, protect substations and metering equipment from vandalism and theft, and that enables us to proactively communicate with each individual member-owner about his or her electricity use.
The second motivation: this fiber optic network will allow us to offer broadband services to member-owners throughout the co-op service territory.
